Nagpur: Making most of their experienced players, Pune ticked all the boxes in order to emerge on the top in the Maharashtra state youth basketball championship on Tuesday. They defeated Nagpur 71-53 in the title clash in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar on Tuesday morning. On the other hand, Nagpur girls finished on fourth position.
Sources said that Pune had more experienced players in their rank owning to the advantage of fielding players from Boys Cantonment Board, an unit of the BEG. Pune outfit comprised of players from
Haryana and
Uttar Pradesh. “But there is nothing wrong. They are eligible to represent Pune as it is their workplace city,” said an official.
“Had we got 20-25 days camp, we would have defeated this Pune team,” a coaching staff said.
Earlier, Nagpur girls finish fourth after losing the third place encounter to Mumbai Suburban 40-16. tnn
