Panaji: Accusing the state government of destructive policies, Trinamool Congress on Tuesday urged chief minister Pramod Sawant to scrap the Goa Land Development and Building Construction amendments.
TMC’s national spokesperson Trajano D’Mello, along with Goa TMC joint convenor Samil Volvaiker, opposed the recently notified draft Goa Land Development and Building Construction (Amendment) Regulations.
“The BJP government is relentlessly destroying Goa’s environment and neglecting the welfare of its people,” Volvaiker said.
“Every amendment and policy proposed by the BJP government serves the interests of capitalists, disregarding the rights and well-being of Goans.”
D’Mello said that the draft norms will have a detrimental impact on the state. “The amendments have the potential to wreak havoc on Goa’s delicate ecological balance,” D’Mello said.
“This short-sighted approach jeopardises our environment, biodiversity, ecosystems, and agricultural lands.”
By permitting the construction of larger and taller buildings in agricultural zones, D’Mello said, and by reducing access requirements for resorts by converting agricultural land for non-agricultural use, the amendments will lead to overcrowding and impact Goa’s food security.
