NOIDA: Four of the nine men arrested with 46kg of methamphetamine (MDMA), estimated to be worth Rs 200 crore in the international market, from a house in Greater Noida’s Theta II last week have been remanded to police custody for five days.
Police said in remand interrogation of the foreign nationals was needed to obtain crucial information, like how the men got into the country and how widespread their network was.
“A lot of questions and links are unclear at the moment. We will firstly ascertain how they got into the country and if were they staying illegally as no documents were found on them,” SHO Beta-2 Vinod Kumar Mishra said.
Cops will also quiz them on the raw material sources, supply routes and modes, customer base and the entire nexus. “We will take help from a translator and have got in touch with the embassy for the same,” Mishra said.
Eight Nigerian men and one Senegalese national had rented a three-storey house in the quiet neighbourhood of Theta II in Greater Noida and turned it into a sophisticated meth-cooking lab with flasks, beakers, burettes, funnels et al, to produce high-quality meth, an operation they ran for at least a year before the police discovered it last week.
The lab functioned from the second floor of the house to produce mainly MDMA, a party drug popularly known as ecstasy, which is chemically similar to stimulants and hallucinogens that produce feelings of increased energy.
Reagents and chemicals to produce drugs worth another Rs 100 crore were also seized from the house.
