Jaipur: A day after four family members, among them a 37-year-old woman returning from Haridwar after immersing ashes of her husband, were crushed to death by an SUV in Kotkhawada near Chaksu in Jaipur, police on Monday lodged a case of murder against the absconding driver of the SUV.
Protests and dharna by family members, relatives and locals were withdrawn after the government agreed to demands of the family and announced a financial pacakge of nearly Rs 61 lakh as per SC/ST Act and Chiranjeevi Yojana.
“We have lodged a case of murder against the driver of the SUV who has been identified as Suresh Gurjar,” Kailash Bishnoi, additional commissioner of police (crime), told TOI.
Earlier in the day, BJP MP Kirori Lal Meena protested outside the bungalow of DGP Umesh Mishra. He had a conversation with Mishra over the phone in which he demanded a murder case against the driver and compensation to the family. At 11am Meena was informed that the FIR had been lodged and that the government had approved demands of the family, including a contractual job and education of other children of the killed woman.
