The news media is currently fixated on the debt ceiling. TV talking heads prattle on endlessly about it. Editors and journalists spin reams of newsprint about it. Meanwhile, most Americans probably yawn and don’t care at all.

The average citizen is more concerned about their own debt limits than they are about the apparently insatiable government desire to borrow and spend. If the Biden administration and Congress were equally worried about reducing government debt and having disciplined spending habits, robust private spending would quickly lasso inflation.

Alas, that’s likely not to be. Annual debt-ceiling negotiations — which are going on right now between the dummkopf in the White House and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy — are like a carousel that goes round and round but goes nowhere other than up. With the national debt already at an astronomical level (now just shy of $33 trillion), Democrats want the debt carousel to spiral ever upward so they can withdraw even more out of the paychecks and investments of Americans. Absurd!
