SALEM: New collectors assumed charges in Namakkal, Krishnagiri and Erode districts on Monday. They then attended grievances day meetings at their respective offices and received petitions from the public.
Raja Gopal Sunkara, a 2015 batch IAS officer, assumed charge as the 35th collector of the Erode district. He replaced H Krishnanunni, who was transferred and posted as the joint secretary to the finance department. Earlier, he served as the executive director of the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board.
Talking to reporters, he said addressing people’s problems will be his top priority. “All steps will be taken to ensure that the government’s welfare schemes would reach the beneficiaries. The public can bring their problems to my notice using phone numbers, 97917 88852 and 0424-2260211, any time.”
In Namakkal district, S Uma assumed charge as the 16th collector. She replaced Shreya P Singh. She joined the
Tamil Nadu government as a medical officer in 1995 after completing MBBS and MD in community medicine. She was promoted to the IAS cadre by the state government in 2019. She was the first government doctor to be promoted to civil services under the state selection category from Tamil Nadu.
Similarly, K M Sarayu, a 2015 batch IAS officer, took charge as the 13th collector of the Krishnagiri district. She was earlier the joint managing director for Tamil Nadu Milk Producers’ Federation Limited. She replaced Deepak Jacob, who was transferred to the Thanjavur district.
In Tirupur, T Christuraj took charge as a new collector. Previously, he served as the commissioner of Salem corporation.
From August 2014 to March 2017, Christuraj served as District Revenue Officer (DRO) in Coimbatore.
He is a native of Chennai and did his MSc (Mathematics) from Loyola College.
