First rank-holder Hridam Thakuria is undergoing rigorous coaching in a private institute here after he appeared in the boards. Hridam wants to clear JEE (Advanced) but doesn’t want to pursue a career in engineering. “I want to qualify JEE (Main) and then JEE (Advanced). But I don’t want to go in engineering line. I want to study basic science, basically physics. My target is to get enrolled in IISc Bangalore and go for higher studies. Becoming a physicist is my ultimate goal,” Hridam told media persons here soon after the results.
A vernacular-medium student from Sankardev Shishu Niketan, Dhekiajuli in northern Assam’s Sonitpur district, Hridam said studying in an Assamese-medium school has never been an obstacle in his journey towards excellence. “My result was beyond expectation and I would suggest to my juniors to chase dreams rather than mere studying for results,” he said.
Lucky Devi Choudhury and Manmita Sarma of Ananda Vidya Niketan, Nalbari, jointly secured second rank with two other students, Ishrat Fariha of Nagaon Government Boy’s HS School and Aditya Anupom Konwar of St Joseph’s School, Sonari, in Charaideo district.
Lucky and Manmita expressed their eagerness to study science. Both the classmates competed with themselves to excel in the exam with the common goal of becoming doctors. “I want to pursue science stream to become a doctor,” said Lucky. Her father was confident that Lucky would get more than 95% marks but never expected a berth in the top-10.
Lucky said continuous study throughout the year, without taking extra pressure, was the mantra behind her success. “Even during Class X boards, I studied like in Class IX, watched TV serials almost daily till the commencement of board examination,” she said.
Manmita also did not follow any definite timetable and spent time with family and friends. Though she expected a good percentage, a rank was out of the blue. “I will now put all my effort into becoming a doctor,” she said.
Nilufer Rahman of Dumunichowki English School, Darrang, joint third rank holder in the exam, has already enrolled in a coaching institute in Guwahati and is preparing for NEET to get admission in medical education. “To serve society as a doctor is my goal,” said Nilufer.
