MUMBAI: Film and television actor Aditya Singh Rajput, 36, died at his Andheri apartment on Monday after allegedly slipping and falling in the bathroom.
Police said Rajput had suffered two wounds - a cut above his ear and a bump on his head - which are likely to be a result of the fall. Investigators are now awaiting the autopsy report which will conclude the exact cause of death. Rajput's mother, who lives in Delhi, left for Mumbai on Monday after being informed of his death.
Rajput was a contestant on Splitsvilla 9 and had starred in films like 'U Me and Hum', 'Maine Gandhi Ko Nahi Mara', TV shows like CID and several commercials.
He shared a 3-BHK apartment at Green Heights society with two roommates and a live-in househelp. One of his roommates had not been home for a couple of days and the other would leave for work in the morning and return at night. Police said Rajput was not feeling well for the past few days. The househelp told the police that the actor had cough, cold and was throwing up. He had partied on Sunday.
On Monday, Rajput woke up at 11am and had a paratha for breakfast. He continued to throw up and asked the househelp to cook Khichdi for him. Between 2pm and 2.30pm, Rajput went into the bathroom. His househelp heard a loud crash and rushed to check on him. Rajput had fallen and hurt himself. Some tiles in the bathroom had also broken.
"The househelp rushed downstairs and sought help from us," said a security guard. The guards went upstairs and lifted Rajput, who had passed out, onto the bed. They fetched a doctor from a hospital located outside the society. The doctors advised that Rajput be moved to a public hospital. The police were informed, besides a female friend. Rajput was moved to the Trauma Care Hospital at Jogeshwari where he was pronounced dead.
Soon, the news about his death was all over social media and his friends and co-actors started visiting his home. One of them was Bollywood actor Arya Babbar who said he was numb after hearing the tragic news and left his shoot midway to come over. "Rajput and I were in touch over Instagram. He was very young and I can't believe he is gone," said Babbar. Another friend of Rajput said he was an avid photographer and had set up a studio inside his apartment. He had also started his own label of branded clothes. Rajput had started his career at the age of 17 and was living in Mumbai for over a decade.
