After son’s death by suicide, remorseful woman ends life
Nagpur: Unable to overcome the grief of losing her 20-year-old son, who died by suicide at his home on Sunday, a mother ended her life on Monday by consuming phenyl. Sources said that the woman held herself responsible for the son’s death.
The deceased youngster, identified as Khiten Waghwani, was found hanging from the ceiling fan with a scarf in the kitchen of his home at Chhaprulok building at Ambedkar Chowk. It’s learnt, Khiten was alone at home while the rest of family had gone to attend a marriage. It was his mother, Divya, who first spotted Khiten hanging and rushed him to a hospital.
Divya would chide Khiten for his extravagant lifestyle. On Monday, Divya’s family twice tried to dissuade her after she expressed desire to end life. After repeatedly blaming herself for son’s death, Divya sneak into the bathroom and consumed phenyl. She was later declared dead at a hospital.
The shock of the double tragedy led to hospitalization of Khiten’s father Naresh, who is a cancer patient.
Though officially police are yet to ascertain the reason behind Khiten’s suicide, they are not ruling out involvement of bookies or MD racketeers who may have been harassing the family.
It’s learnt, Wardhaman Nagar, Chhapru Nagar and adjoining places have become hub for bookies who mostly operate online. Sources stated the bookies like Muniyar, Amersar and Dhamtari are now active in cricket betting from Wardhaman Nagar and are under police scanner.
Cops have got information that Khiten’s mobile phone was not with him for the last two days. It i suspected that mobile phone had been mortgaged. Zonal DCP Gorakh Bhamre said call details records of Khiten would be analyzed and the mobile phone will have to be recovered. “Police would probe the youngster’s links,” said Bhamre.
Khiten’s father Naresh is a grain agent and merchant. According to family sources, Naresh has to settle a debt of around Rs15-20 lakh for his son. “Khiten often mortgaged his vehicle, mobile phone and gold to pay for his expenses,” said the family sources.
