Massive blaze destroys pipes stored in yard

Sambalpur: A massive fire broke out in a plastic pipe yard in Gunderpur area in Sambalpur district on Monday destroying around 80% of the stored materials, a fire services official said. However, no casualties were reported.
Fire tenders took more than four hours to control the blaze. Sub-collector, Sambalpur, Prabhas Chandra Dansana, who visited the spot, said an inquiry will be conducted to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.
A private company, which has been awarded work under the rural water supply and sanitation department, had stored pipes in the yard. Pipes for five gram panchayats under Maneswar block had been stored. Stubble burning in surrounding lands may be behind the fire,” said a senior official of the company.
