Ex-Lok Sabha Speaker Manohar Joshi admitted to hospital

Former Lok Sabha speaker and ex-chief minister of Maharashtra Manohar G Joshi has been admitted to a private hospital for certain age-related health issues. Joshi, 86, was taken to the Hinduja Hospital in Mahim and is said to be in the ICU under the care of a team of senior doctors. Former CM and Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray, wife Rashmi and other family members and party leaders rushed to the hospital to enquire after Joshi's health. (IANS)

‘Probe came after he met RSS chief’

Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president Nana Patole has alleged that CBI launched a probe against NCB’s former zonal director Sameer Wankhede after he called on RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat at the Sangh’s headquarters in Nagpur. “Despite Wankhede being a government servant, he met Bhagwat, which is in violation of conduct and discipline rules.”

Heartattacks accounted for the maximum deaths in Mumbai in 2022, an RTI plea on disease-wise cause of fatalities has revealed. With 9,470 casualties , around 26 Mumbaikars died of heart attacks each day last year. Cancer followed, claiming 9,145 patients, or 25 lives a day. Covid, which claimed the maximum lives in 2020 and 2021, killed 1,891 people last year. In fact, TB was abigger killer, accounting for 3,281 fatalities. Overall, last year’s toll was 94,538, with ‘other diseases’ claiming 60,555.

Observing that sex work in itself is not an offence, a sessions court has directed a shelter home to set at liberty a 34-year-old female sex worker detained following a raid at a Mulund brothel in February. The court said it can be called an offence when one engages in sex work in public place causing annoyance to others.

Man (64) beaten by wife, son, dies

A 64-year-old Jogeshwari man, who had suffered two heart attacks and undergone bypass and spinal surgeries, has died after he was allegedly assaulted by his wife and son following a property dispute on May 18. A case has been filed, but no arrests have been made.
