As the controversy surrounding Prime Minister Narendra Modi's participation in the inauguration of the new Parliament building persists, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has made the decision to abstain from attending the scheduled inauguration ceremony on May 28. TMC MP Saugata Roy said, 'We are opposed to the PM inaugurating the new Parliament building. The President should inaugurate it. We are thinking of boycotting the function, the party has to take a final decision on the matter.' Confirming the party's decision, another party MP O'Brien in a tweet said, 'Parliament is not just a new building; it is an establishment with old traditions, values, precedents and rules - it is the foundation of Indian democracy. PM Modi doesn’t get that...For him, Sunday’s inauguration of the new building is all about I, ME, MYSELF. So count us out.'
