46th edition of Yercaud summer festival off to a colourful start

Salem: The 46th edition of the Yercaud summer festival began with colourful displays and events on Sunday amidst pleasant weather and moderate rain in the hill station. Ministers K N Nehru and MRK Panneerselvam inaugurated the event.
Floral displays featuring Ponniyin Selvan’s ship and cartoon characters including Dragon Warrior, Chotta Beem, and Honey Beem were the center of attraction for visitors. Each display has been created with 15,000 coronation flowers, gerbera and anthorium flowers. officials from the horticulture and agriculture departments said, more than 2.5 lakh flowers were exhibited at the festival.
Hundreds of tourists thronged the very first day of the summer festival to witness the floral displays. The botanical garden has more than 100 varieties of flowers on display including lovable red rose, adiantum tinctum, eliconium, gerbera, acatic lilliatia, gladilous, liliums, anthorium.
District collector S Karmegam encouraged tourists to take part in the Yercaud summer festival. The district administration has arranged special government buses from Salem for tourists to visit the summer festival at Yercaud. Parking facilities have also been arranged for visitors traveling by cars and vans. This year’s summer festival will go on till May 28.
