Alianza Lima welome Libertad to Estadio Alejandro Villanueva for a matchday four fixture in the Copa Libertadores on Tuesday (May 23).
The hosts are coming off a 2-1 defeat at FBC Melgar in the Peruvian league. Pablo Magnin broke the deadlock on the strok of half-time before Pablo Sabbag equalised eight minutes into the second half. Bernardo Cuesta scored a last-gasp winner in the fifth minute of injury time.
Libertad, meanwhile, claimed maximum points with a narrow 1-0 home win over city rivals Olimpia in the Paraguayn league. Veteran Oscar Cardozo scored the winner from the spot in the 19th minute.
The Repollero will turn their attention back to the continent where their last game saw them fall to a 2-1 home defeat to Athletico-PR. Alianza, meanwhile, also suffered a loss to Brazilian opposition, losing 2-0 at Atletico-MG.
The defeats left the two sides in second and fourth spots respectively in Group G. Lima have four points to show for their efforts after three games, while Libertad have three points.
Libertad have had a nightmare start to their Libertadores campaign, having been tipped to compete for one of the top two spots in the group.
Alianza, meanwhile, have defied expectations, with their shock win over Libertad in Asuncion highlighting their intention to push their more established opponents all the way.
The Peruvian club will look to draw inspiration from their win in the previous meeting, and their strong home form could come in handy. The spoils could be shared in a high-scoring stalemate.
