Wrestlers protest: ‘Women mahapanchyat’ on May 28
Rohtak: Backing the protesting wrestlers, the Sarv Khap Mahapanchayat on Sunday announced to hold a women mahapanchayat at the newly constructed Parliament building in Delhi on May 28.
Representatives of various khaps from Haryana and outside participated in the mahapanchayat at Meham Chaubisi in Rohtak on Sunday. Olympic medallist Sakshi Malik and farmer leader Rakesh Tikait also participated in the event.
Announcing the decision taken by the Sarv Khap Mahapanchayat, Ramphal Rathee, secretary, Meham khap, said a women mahapanchayat would be convened in Delhi at new Parliament building on May 28 in solidarity with the women grapplers protesting against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who has been accused of sexual harassment by some women wrestlers, including a minor. Rathee said women from across the nation would participate in the mahapanchayat on May 28. The mahapanchayat also sought narco test of Brij Bushan and his immediate arrest.
Representatives of various khap panchayats will also participate in a candle march to be held in Delhi by the wrestlers on May 23. The khaps were asked to be ready to visit Delhi, if need arises, within five hours.
