Result for the Assam secondary examination this year, which was hit by controversy after question papers of two subjects leaked, was declared on Monday and over 70 per cent candidates cleared it. The boys outshone the girls in the examination, which recorded an overall pass percentage of 72.69 per cent. The pass percentage for boys was 74.71, while that of girls was 70.96 per cent, the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) said. The overall pass percentage this year was an improvement over that of 2022, when 56.49 per cent candidates cleared the examination. (PTI)

In the wake of incidents compromising the safety of students in all-women colleges, the Delhi University has reconstituted a committee to strengthen the safety and security of female students and employees on the campus. The six-member committee will be headed by university proctor Rajni Abbi. Speaking to PTI, Abbi said the committee has been reconstituted after harassment incidents were reported during cultural festivals at colleges. "The university felt the need to have a specific committee to look into the issues of female safety. The committee that was formed after these incidents created generalised guidelines. But it was not specific to the safety of girl students," she said. (PTI)

Lodged at Delhi's Tihar Jail since his arrest in connection with a money laundering case last year, Jain was taken to the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Hospital on Saturday but as he wanted a second opinion, he was taken to the Safdarjung Hospital, a senior jail official said. "Jain visited the neurosurgery OPD in the morning and after being examined by the doctors there, he left. He was accompanied by police," said a spokesperson of the Safdarjung Hospital. Jain was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on May 31, 2022, in connection with a money laundering case. (PTI)

TN: Nine Twitter handles booked for spreading ‘biryani jihad’ rumours

The Coimbatore city cybercrime police on Sunday registered a case against nine twitter handles for spreading rumoursabout some hotels run by Muslims waging a ‘biryani jihad’. Thamaraikannan, sub-inspector, lodged a complaint saying hechecked twitter messages randomly and found a message saying some hotels in Coimbatore were serving biryani mixed with contraceptive pills, that would affect hormones and make people impotent, to Hindus, and normal biryani to Muslims. A case was registered against the twitter handles under sections 465, 505 (1) (b), of the Indian Penal Code and sections 66, 66 D of the Information Technology Act and inspector P Arun took over the investigation.

Heavy rain for just about an hour late Sunday afternoon caused havoc in several parts of the city and claimed the life of a 23-year-old woman, who died after the MUV she was travelling in along with five other relatives submerged in the flooded KR Circle underpass here.
