Coimbatore: A three-member gang waylaid a truck and robbed the driver of 10,000 on L&T Bypass Road on Sunday morning.
The truck was carrying household items of Erode collector H Krishnanunni, who was transferred to Chennai a few days ago, police sources said. “The vehicle was en route to the collector’s hometown near Thiruvananthapuram. While passing through Kanjikonampalayam in Coimbatore around 12.30am, three men on a motorcycle overtook the vehicle and told truck driver A Muthukrishnan, 30, of Pattabiram that he had a flat tyre. When Muthukrishnan got down from the vehicle, the trio robbed him of 10,000 at knifepoint,” a police officer said.
The driver contacted the police control room and a team rushed to the spot. Though police checked vehicles on the bypass, they were not able to nab the gang.
“We formed three teams led by inspectors and they are collecting CCTV footage. They will nab the robbers soon,” said deputy commissioner of police K Shanmugam.
The Podanur police registered a robbery case.
