Power crisis: Govt feels heat from oppn
Ranchi: Lawmakers, parliamentarians from the opposition parties and local trade and commerce bodies slammed the state government over the deepening power crisis in the state.
Sanjay Seth, the BJP MP from Ranchi, on Sunday mounted an attack on the Soren government on the issues of power and water scarcities. “There is an unprecedented shortage of power and water in the state and the government is completely oblivious to it,” Seth claimed.
“The power problems across Jharkhand first began in February and complaints started coming in of breakdowns of transformers. The crisis deepened over the past few months. I am getting calls from all Kanke, Khijri, Icchagarh, Silli and other parts of my constituency every day.
The people are complaining of long power cuts and shortages of water for drinking and daily use. The water towers in these areas are not working and borewells have failed as well. But the state government is completely oblivious to the problems which are being faced by the people,” he added.
“I urge chief minister Hemant Soren to ensure that the people of Ranchi get adequate electricity and power. If his government does not work out solutions soon, the people will take to the streets,” Seth said.
The Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FJCCI) demanded that Soren must intervene at the earliest to ensure that Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL) provides seamless power to domestic households and the manufacturing units during the summers.
“The frequent and prolonged power cuts are adversely affecting the manufacturing units in the state. The situation has worsened to such an extent that the manufacturers are keeping their units running through generators. Besides shortages of power, the transmission system of JBVNL is also poor and it is also adding to the woes,” the FJCCI said in a statement.
