CM Khattar in city on Sunday
GURGAON: Chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday launched Haryana Uday - a community policing and outreach programme - to promote better ties between the district administration, law enforcement agencies and the public.
Implementation of the initiative will begin across the state from June 1, Khattar announced during an address in Sector 79 of the city.
Under the outreach programme, district deputy commissioners will organise jan savads, collaborative exercises to clean ponds, art, music and poetry competitions, school and mohalla-level sports events, tree plantation drives, and overnight stays in villages by IAS and HCS officers. Besides these, mock youth and village parliaments, and pulling in government schools for cleanliness and health initiatives are part of the plan.
For community policing, police commissioners and SPs of districts will launch sports competitions, Raahgiri-like initiatives, awareness campaigns on drug abuse, and events related to police ki paathshala, etc.
The CM said a safer and more inclusive society can be created with the help of such outreach programmes, and by ensuring the participation of the public. Khattar also urged citizens to work together and establish communication as public representatives of the districts.
"Collective participation will be ensured in this comprehensive community policing and outreach programme, which will be an important medium to promote engagement, participation and collaboration among a large number of individuals," he said.
The events and programmes will be held across June. A three-day Mahila Bazar, and an event to mark International Yoga Day will be held in Gurgaon during the month. In July, sports competitions and another Mahila Bazar will be held in Faridabad in July.
The chief minister also announced that a road safety week will be observed in the state from Sunday, and measures will be taken to improve accident-prone spots in districts.
At the event, Khattar also called on people to contribute to developing Gurgaon.
"The government has worked to expand state-of-the-art transport in this city -- the metro service. With this, the process of setting up a metro rail link from Rezang La Chowk to Delhi's Dwarka along with Panchgaon, Manesar, Global City, Dwarka Expressway, etc. is being taken forward," he said.
