Shop owner issues SIM cards on forged papers; booked

Ludhiana: A telecom shop owner has been booked for forgery as he used forged ID proofs to issue SIM cards of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL). A complaint was received from BSNL on May 23 and after an inquiry, police lodged an FIR on Sunday. The accused, Tarun Kumar, runs a telecommunication shop at Kohara area of Jamalpur. A case has been registered against him on the complaint of Irina Kujur, manager, BSNL Telecom, Bharat Nagar chowk.
Investigating officer, ASI Paramjit said that BSNL has a software to scan documents used for issuing SIM cards. Company officials found that the accused had used one face on different IDs while issuing SIM cards. They lodged a complaint with the police and an inquiry was marked to a senior officer. It was found that at least eight SIM cards had been issued on different IDs but the photo used was the same.
The ASI said that investigation was being conducted to ascertain why Tarun used forged documents to issue IDs and if he had links with criminals. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC.
