Parents allege foul play in 16-year-old’s suicide
Thiruvananthapuram: The parents of the 16-year-old girl, who committed suicide at Chirayinkeezhu after scoring full A-plus in SSLC examinations, have alleged that she took the extreme step due to the harassment she faced from a man who had returned from a Gulf country recently.
Police have identified the person alleged in the complaint.
The girl, a Koonthalloor resident, was found hanging at her house on Saturday evening. Earlier in the day she had attended a reception organised at her school for the students for scoring good marks.
Her parents told the police that she was threatened by a man for rejecting his proposal.
“My daughter was threatened for rejecting the man’s proposal. She was harassed by him continuously and she was scared of him. When she was getting ready to go to school on Saturday, she had asked me whether that person would come to school to harass her. I consoled her by saying that a police complaint can be filed if he comes again. However, I received a phone call in the evening when I was away from home informing me that my daughter had committed suicide. In fact, she was killed by that person. Police must ensure a transparent probe to bring the truth out,” the girl’s father said.
Police said that the postmortem report revealed that the girl was not subjected to any physical assault.
“We have to take the statements of her mother and her friends at the school where she was studying. The call details of the girl and chat history have to be examined to find out whether the allegations levelled by her parents were true or not,” said police
