Scottish comedian George Logan passes away at 78

Scottish comedian George Logan has passed away at the age of 78, confirmed his family on Sunday. In half of the musical duo Hinge and Bracket, the comedy star played Dr Evadne Hinge. TV star Patrick Fyffe, who played Dame Hilda Bracket in the opera-loving double act, died at the age of 60 in 2002.

Logana and Fyffe hosted their won BBC2 series named ‘Dear Ladies’ for several years and were known to be regulars in theatres since they launched the drag act in 1974 at the Edinburgh Festival. Broadcaster and author Gyles Brandreth scripted the TV series and specials of Dear Ladies with Hinge and Bracket.

As tributes poured for George Logan, Brandreth remembered the 78-year-old as a “very funny, very brilliant man – a wonderful musician & a great entertainer”. He further wrote on Twitter, “His creation, Dr Evadne Hinge, was beautifully observed & gloriously brought to life with his stage partner Patrick Fyffe as the irrepressible Dame Hilda Bracket. They were such fun!”.

George Logan was born in South Lanarkshire and he appeared for royalty as part of the double act. He used to perform two Royal Variety shows. He also documented his experiences while growing up as an openly gay man in Glasgow in 2015 with his book ‘A Boy Called Audrey’.
