KANPUR: Four members of a marriage party were killed while three others sustained serious injuries when the SUV they were travelling in crashed into a roadside tree, at a high speed in Uttar Pradesh's Banda district on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday.
The deceased have been identified as Rajeev alias Raju Tiwari (48), Devraj Dwivedi (65), Lakshmi Dwivedi (70) and Kailashi, all travelling in a Bolero.
Two of the injured have been referred to Kanpur, while one is undergoing treatment at the district hospital.
The 'baraat' (marriage procession) of Ankit Singh, son of Raju Singh, resident of Godhani village of Tindwari police station area, had gone to Kurhun village of Badausa police station area on Sunday.
After 'jaimal' rituals, seven baratis left for Godhani at around 1am.
"The accident happened near Turra village under the limits of Badausa police station when the driver suddenly lost control over the vehicle and it rammed into a tree," said additional superintendent of police, Lakshmi Niwas Mishra.
Upon receiving the information by passers-by, police reached the spot and admitted the injured to the district hospital, said an official, adding, "The bodies of the deceased have been sent for postmortem."
