THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In yet another record, 99.7% of candidates who appeared for the SSLC examination this year have been declared eligible for higher studies. The number of students who secured A+ for all subjects also jumped to 68,604, an increase of 24,241 students from the last academic year. The pass percentage was 99.26 last year.
Announcing the results at a news conference here on Friday, general education minister V Sivankutty said the near-100 pass percentage and substantial increase in the number of full A+ scorers reflected the academic excellence and hard work of students. Unlike in the Covid years, there was no 'focus area' marked for the examination.
Of the 4,19,368 students registered, 4,19,128 appeared for the examination and 4,17,864 were declared eligible for higher studies. The Kannur revenue district recorded the highest pass percentage (99.94) while Pala and Muvattupuzha educational districts recorded 100% pass.
The highest number of candidates had appeared for the examination in Malappuram (77,967) and the lowest in Pathanamthitta (10,213).
In SSLC Hearing impaired (HI) examination, the pass percentage is 99.55. Of the 227 candidates who appeared, 226 have been declared eligible for higher studies. In the Technical High School Leaving Certificate Examination (THSLC), the pass percentage is 99, with 2,913 of 2,916 candidates clearing the exam. Sivankutty said the government was planning to start Plus One classes on June 5 and fast-track the admission process accordingly so that the students would get 50 more school days compared to 2022-23. The department expects around 3.85 lakh enrolment in Plus One courses in 2023-24 as against 4,65,141 seats in higher secondary, vocational higher secondary, polytechnics and ITIs.
The government plans to conduct the next SSLC examination from March 4, but the dates will be finalised after discussions with teachers' unions, he said. The certificates of candidates who cleared the exam this year will be available on Digilocker from June first week.
