Assam contract staffer loses job over bribe

SILCHAR: A contractual government employee of Assam’s Hailakandi district lost his job on Friday after a video showing him taking bribe for providing benefits under the schemes of panchayat and rural development department went viral on the social media.
The man has been identified Ali Ahmed Barbhuiya, the gram rojgar sevak (GRS) of Chiparsangan gaon panchayat in Algapur development block.
On Friday, an order was issued by the office of the commissioner, panchayat and rural development, Government of Assam, stating that a video post uploaded on the social media shows Barbhuiya is involved in taking bribe from the general public for providing benefits under the schemes of panchayat and rural development department. The order said it is clear from the video that Barbhuiya has violated the terms and conditions of his contract agreement with the panchayat and rural development department while being engaged as GRS.
In view of above and after going through the evidence, facts and circumstance and performance of Barbhuiya, the authority is of the opinion that the services of Barbhuiya are no longer required by the department and the contract agreement whereby he has been engaged as the GRS stands terminated with immediate effect, the order said.
