Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi calls Centre’s ordinance on control of services in Delhi Vindictive

Senior Congress leader and Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi has called the Central governments’ ordinance on taking the control of the services department of the Delhi government Vindictive and laughable.

Singhvi said the ordinance of the Centre violates the principles of the constitution. The senior advocate said as per the Constitution, bureaucrats report to the elected government but now the Centre is giving bureaucrats the in-charge authority of other bureaucrats. Singhvi asked the Centre, how can it violate the Constitutional laws bringing an Ordinance.

Late on Friday night, President of India issued an Ordinance which said the Union government has established a National Capital Service Authority that will make recommendations to the Delhi Lieutenant Governor on the matters of transfer posting, vigilance and others.

This ordinance by the Centre comes just days after the Supreme Court’s order on the executive powers of the Delhi Government on services matters.

Singhvi also has said that the ordinance will be challenged and will not be passed in the Parliament.

An ordinance introduced by the central government needs to be passed by both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha within the six months of its date of issue.

Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party, who is in power in Delhi has hit out at the Centre’s decision. AAP Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chaddha has called this move by the Centre a contempt of court and a contempt of electorate.

Chaddha, referring to the SC judgement passed recently, said, the government at the Centre has done a violation of the basic structure of constitution by overturning a well planned and thought given unanimous Constitution Bench judgement.

Delhi BJP MLA Ramvir Singh Bidhuri welcomed the ordinance and targeted Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal saying he hopes the chief minister will work for the development of Delhi with proper coordination with LG and the central government.
