Alleging a scam in sopo collection in Panaji market of the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP), Trajano D’Mello, national spokesperson of Trinamool Congress has filed a complaint before the Panaji police demanding to register an FIR and conduct a thorough investigation in the
matter.
D’Mello in the complaint said that “we write this complaint in the context of public statements made by the Commissioner of CCP Clen Madeira and Uday Madkaikar, ex-mayor of CCP, who have exposed the scam in respect of sopo collection in the CCP.”
It is apparent from the public statements made by responsible persons that there is a scam in respect of sopo collection in the CCP, wherein sopo is being illegally collected by indulging in corrupt and illegal practices, said D’Mello in the complaint. He further said that by such activity the money which belongs to the CCP is being pocketed by certain individuals thereby causing loss to the treasury and in this manner the money belonging to the general public is being siphoned off.
“We are constrained to file the present complaint on account of the fact that even after such a huge scam has been brought to the notice vide public statements made by responsible persons, no action has been initiated to lodge an appropriate complaint before your office for investigation,” states the
complainant.
The complaint said that an investigation is required against the present mayor and all the persons who are responsible / in-charge in respect of the sopo collection of the CCP. Further, the persons who have held the position of CCP mayors for the last 10-15 years should also be investigated, stated the complainant.
