CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: A board asking visitors to wear “appropriate” clothing while visiting the Tulja Bhavani temple in Osmanabad district was removed on Friday, after it caught the attention of the temple trust’s president as well as district collector Sachin Ombase.
The historic temple was built in 12th century in Tuljapur tehsil.
The sign was reportedly put up without taking the trust and its members into confidence. Taking cognizance, Ombase has ordered a probe into the act and sought a detailed report.
The signboard stated that those wearing “body exposing, provocative, uncultured, indecent clothes as well as half pants, bermudas” are not allowed in the temple. It also asked visitors to be conscious about Indian culture and traditions.
After the signage was put up, a video showing the temple’s security guard preventing a child wearing shorts from entering the premises was uploaded on social media.
When the board put up in the name of the temple trust caught Ombase’s attention on Thursday, he soon clarified that no such orders had been given by the trust or passed by the temple administration.
Ombase told TOI, “No such instructions were given by the temple trust. The board has been removed.”
Speaking to the local media, Ombase said the tehsildar has been asked to submit a detailed report about the development, following which appropriate action will be taken against whoever is responsible.
He went on to state that there is no clarity as to when this board was displayed at the main entrance of the temple.
Another revenue official associated with the temple trust said that after going through the temple’s file, comprising passed resolutions, there is no record of any proposal and permission taken or granted by members for this measure.
