THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Announcing this year's SSLC exam results here on Friday, general education minister V Sivankutty broke down when he mentioned the A+ in all subjects scored by B R Sarang who had died in an accident. The 16-year-old who met with an accident on May 6 had died on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, when his body was brought home for his last rites on Friday, his mother Rajani suddenly clapped her hands on her son's achievement. Sarang's relatives could not control their emotions when they saw a sobbing Rajani standing and clapping when her son's body arrived.
Sarang, a Class X student of Attingal Boys School, was travelling in an autorickshaw with his mother when the mishap happened near Kunnathukonam bridge at Thottakad, Vadakottukonam in Attingal. After battling for his life in a hospital for 12 days, he died on Wednesday.
His parents, Bineesh Kumar and Rajani, in profound grief, decided to donate his organs, including two corneas, liver, two kidneys and heart valve, giving light and hope to the lives of six people even in his death.
"Sarang was a good football player... I would like to appreciate his family for agreeing to donate his organs... I am announcing his result. His registration number is 122913. I had collected his number from his father," said Sivankutty. Health minister Veena George also appreciated Sarang's family for deciding to donate his organs.
The body was handed over to his relatives by noon on Friday. The last rites were performed later in the day. Sarang, who trained at the Kerala Blasters football coaching camp at Mamam in Attingal, always dreamt of becoming a footballer. He is survived by his parents and brother Yaswant.
