Class X re-test: No bar regardless of subjects failed
Panaji: The chairperson of the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Bhagirath Shetye, on Saturday said that students will be able to take the Class X supplementary exams to be held in June irrespective of the number of subjects in which they have failed. However, two categories of students have been created based on the number of subjects failed.
Students who have failed or have got the ‘needs improvement’ remark in one or two subjects will be allowed to keep terms (or, ATKT).
“Students who have got the ‘needs improvement’ remark in one or two subjects can appear for the June supplementary exams. In the meantime, they will be able to seek admission in Class XI,” said Shetye. “However, if a student does not clear the Class X exam, his or her Class XI result will not be released.”
Students will get two more attempts to clear Class X — the June 2023 supplementary exams and the March/April 2024 Class X public exams.
Students who have failed in more than two subjects in Class X in the 2023 public exam will also be able to appear for the June supplementary exams. But they will not get the benefit of the ATKT scheme.
“Candidates who have withdrawn their examination forms can also appear for the June supplementary exams. The supplementary exams are tentatively set to be held in mid-June,” said Shetye.
He said that the Goa board portal will be opened on May 22 to receive applications for verification and reevaluation of marks. The last date to apply for verified photocopies of the answer-books will be May 25, and the last date to apply for reevaluation of answer-books and the verification of marks in absentia will be May 29.
“If a candidate applies for a verified photocopy and/or reevaluation he/she is not permitted to apply for verification of marks in absentia,” said Shetye. “However, a candidate may apply for reevaluation if desired after obtaining a photocopy before the last date for reevaluation.”
