The leaking pipeline
NEW DELHI: For the past one month, clean water has been leaking from a pipeline near Qutub Minar in Mehrauli. On Kalidas Marg, which has a series of high-end clothing stores, the water pressure remains low throughout the day, claim locals.
A housekeeping staffer at one of the stores in Ambawatta Complex alleged that several complaints to DJB and the local councillor had been made in the past one month regarding the water leakage, but in vain. "We have been receiving water in our shop at a very low pressure for the past few weeks. The water that is getting wasted due to the damaged pipeline in the area appears to be drinking water. DJB must look into the matter immediately," he said.
A spot check on Friday revealed that there was leakage of water from a pipeline passing underground near the complex. Concrete slabs over this drain were also broken and missing at many places, which could pose a risk to both the life and limb of pedestrians.
In the past few meetings with DJB officials, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has been insisting on installation of flow meters, which are a way for the board to know whether there is leakage of water in its water pipeline network. In the latest such meeting on May 17, Kejriwal had again inquired about the status of the work of installation of flow meters on both primary and secondary underground reservoirs as well as water treatment plants.
There was no response from DJB to calls and messages on the matter.
