MUMBAI: Some of Mumbai University's final-year LLB students, who were marked absent in Semester V exams, may now be compelled to re-appear for it as the university says it is unable to trace their answersheets.
While the exams concluded in December, results were announced in March-end. But the results for this bunch of students were announced a few days later in April and they were found marked absent in one or more papers.

Law students are paying a price for no fault of theirs. The situation exposes the callous attitude of the authorities. Whatever action is taken by the university must be conveyed to the students. They have the right to know what went wrong and the corrective measures initiated.

"We went to our exam centre, took the copy of the attendance sheets and submitted it to the university... University officials then told us we did not fill the bar code correctly in the answer sheets and therefore, they were unable to trace the physical copies of our answer sheets," said a student.
Missing sheets: LLB students may have to take ATKT exams
Final-year LLB students who were marked absent in semester V exams as the university says it is unable to trace their answer sheets, may have to appear for the allowed to keep term (ATKT) exams.
While they are being told that their assessment is still in process, their college administration has asked them to appear for ATKT exams scheduled to start from May 25. "Many of us are considering filling the form for the ATKT exam as there is no guarantee that the university will find our papers. And if we miss this chance, and the university fails to find our paper, we will end up losing the whole semester," said the student. He said that there are only six days left for the ATKT exams to commence and currently they are appearing for their regular semester VI exams. A university official said that they would look into the complaints.
A student said university officials claimed they were unable to trace the answersheets as they did not fill the bar code correctly. Another student pointed out that they are final-year postgraduate students and are well aware of the university bar coding system. "Even if we did go wrong, they could have traced our papers," said the student. One of the students, who was marked absent, said she cleared the paper during revaluation, without even applying for it.
This is not the first time the university has goofed up during assessment. Over 200 BMS students were marked absent and got zero marks in a paper during the semester V exams. The university cited the same reason even for the BMS papers. Many TYBA students too got zero or 100 in the Abnormal Psychology paper.
