Guwahati: The state unit of
BJP is set to hold a monthlong campaign, Maha Jan Sampark Abhiyan, across Assam from May 30 to reach out to every citizen and strengthen the party at the grassroots level in the run-up to the
Lok Sabha elections next year.
President of BJP’s state unit Bhabesh Kalita said, “It is a way of establishing direct contact with the people and telling them about the welfare schemes and initiatives of the government. Such an initiative was taken even before the 2021 state polls. It is a regular exercise by the party. It helps bridge the gap between the government and the people.”
He said the party will hold an executive meeting on Saturday where deliberations will be made on the preparations for the elections along with various political issues.
BJP, which won nine out of 14 Lok Sabha seats in Assam in 2019, is eyeing to increase its tally to 12 this time. The party won seven seats in 2014.
Hitting out at the opposition, Kalita said the Congress will not even be able to open its account in 2024. “Why would people vote for it? People have seen the all-round development across the state. Several welfare initiatives have been taken for the economically weaker section of the society and the tea tribe community. BJP already enjoys wide acceptance across the state,” he added.
