Ludhiana: The division number 5 police busted a gang of miscreants which honey-trapped men and later robbed them of cash and mobile phones. Police arrested four members, including a woman, of the gang. Police have also arrested a shopkeeper,
Anil Kumar, who used to buy the robbed phones from the accused. Cops have recovered nine such mobile phones from Anil.
The other accused are Ravi, Tarun (both of Jawahar Nagar), Vishal and Manpreet Kaur of Shimlapuri. A team under ASI Varinder Singh arrested the accused from near Middha chowk following a tip-off.
Sub-inspector Neeraj Chaudhary said the gang had been active near the bus stand and Model Town areas for the past some time. The woman accused used to visit these areas in the early hours looking for their target. The woman would honeytrap them and would take them to isolated places, where the trio would reach, overpower the man and rob him of his belongings. Out of embarrassment, the victims would not lodge a complaint with the police.
Ravi, Vishal, Tarun and Manpreet further revealed that they would sell the robbed mobile phones to shopkeeper Anil Kumar. A case under Sections 379-B (snatching) and 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property) of the IPC has been registered.
