XBB.1.16 variant dominant in Gujarat

AHMEDABAD: The analysis of Covid variants in Gujarat by the Gujarat Biotechnology Research Centre (GBRC) indicated that in the past, of the 100 genomic sequences, 80 or 80% were found to be XBB.1.16 or XBB.1.16.1, a sub-variant of Omicron.
Out of the 100 past sequences, 54 were from Ahmedabad, 27 from Vadodara, and six each from Mehsana and Gandhinagar. On Friday, Gujarat recorded 11 new Covid cases.
