Mysuru: Former vice-chancellor KS Rangappa on Friday called upon all educational institutions to create scientific temper among students besides encourage them to study STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) courses in view of their future.
He was speaking after inaugurating a national event ITechnary 2023 organised as part of National Technology Day celebrations by the department of computer science at SDM MMK Women’s College here.
He said that India has achieved a lot of technological prowess, advancement and rapid progress in STEM-related fields after the nuclear blast in Pokhran during 1998. With this, India showcased its achievements in science and technology to the outside world, making all technologically sound countries look towards India.
Remembering the contributions of engineers, technocrats and scientists, on May 11 every year the country celebrates National Technology Day after the first nuclear blast in Pokhran to inspire, and ignite young minds and for promotion of science and technology activities, he said.
Former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who believed that science is also the base for economic progress of the country, coined the slogan Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Vignan, he said
As courses like machine learning, computational intelligence, and artificial intelligence have emerged as courses, he wanted students to develop interest to study these courses. He appealed to all educational institutions to motivate and encourage their students to study science subjects for the economic progress of the nation.
Students from various 15 colleges in Hassan, Mysuru, Mangaluru took part in the competition. Principal of the college prof Sainath Malligemadu and others were present.
