Withdrawal of Rs 2,000 notes a ploy to cover up BJP’s defeat in Karnataka polls: Stalin

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin on Saturday criticised the ruling BJP at the Centre by saying that the announcement to withdraw Rs 2,000 notes is a cover-up for the party’s defeat in the recently concluded Karnataka assembly polls.
Stalin tweeted, "500 doubts, 1,000 mysteries and 2,000 blunders. Withdrawal of Rs 2,000 notes is a ploy to cover up the miserable defeat in the Karnataka assembly election."
Replying to Stalin's tweet, BJP state president K Annamalai stated that it was Stalin who had taken up the Tamil language as a tool to cover up the deaths due to illicit arrack.
Later, while speaking at the protest organised by the BJP women's wing, Annamalai criticised Stalin's tweet by saying that the common man was not worried about the withdrawal of Rs 2,000 notes. "No common man is worried about the withdrawal as the common man has not seen the Rs 2,000 note in recent years. The last time it (Rs 2,000 note) was seen was during the Erode East bypoll," said Annamalai.
Annamalai said he had written to Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman asking the Centre to monitor the Rs 2,000 notes deposited by Tasmac as he alleged that the DMK might attempt to "convert black money into white through Tasmac."
