JNU to have Chair after Sankaradeva
Guwahati: Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, will have a Chair in the name of 15th century neo-Vaishnavite scholar from Assam, Srimanta Sankardeva.
CM Himanta Biswa Sarma graced the occasion of signing of an MoU between the Assam government and JNU here on Thursday evening along with state education minister Ranoj Pegu and education adviser to Assam government, Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta. The event was also attended by JNU vice-chancellor Prof. Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit.
“The signing of this MoU for establishment of the Srimanta Sankardeva Chair at School of Sanskrit and Indic Studies of the university is a defining moment,” said Sarma, expressing gratitude to Prof. Pandit for partnering with the state government for the landmark initiative.
Once established, this will be the third Chair in the name of Srimanta Sankardeva. Visva Bharati and Punjab University have similar chairs after Sankardeva.
