Educate your kids, DC tells labourers

Mandya: Education and knowledge belong to every person who works hard to achieve them, said Mandya DC HN Gopalkrishna on Thursday.
He was speaking after inaugurating an International Labour Day and Law Awareness Programme jointly organized by the district administration, zilla panchayat, District Legal Services Authority, Bar Association and labour department.
The labour department has introduced more than 19 welfare schemes for the benefit of construction labourers and it is important for the labourers to register themselves to reap the benefits of the schemes, he added.
Stating that most labourers encourage their wards to continue in the same professions as theirs, the DC urged the workers to come out of their shells and expedite the possibilities of giving a bright future to their children using the schemes.
The organizers felicitated M Santosh, a fifteen-year-old boy, who worked at a private hotel, for securing 74% marks in the recently concluded SSLC examination. Santosh was identified by labour department officials who got him admitted to one of the government schools in Srirangapatna and was provided with all facilities including study materials to prepare for the examination.
