Sonsoddo committee to meet on May 22

Margao: Chief minister Pramod Sawant will convene a meeting of the high powered committee on solid waste management at Sonsoddo on May 22 at Panaji.
Significantly, the announcement about the meeting has come just two days after GFP president Vijai Sardesai called up the chief minister in the middle of his press conference on Wednesday and urged him to convene a meeting of the committee.
Sardesai had expressed his concern over the “mountain of inerts” that has developed at Sonsoddo following the bioremediation process. He expressed apprehension of a disaster if the inerts aren’t moved from Sonsoddo before the approaching monsoon.
“Just the other day a minister expressed his helplessness in preventing flooding in Panaji during monsoon. Are we also to live with the fear of the mountain of inerts at Sonsoddo collapsing during the rains? There’s uncertainty over the plans of a garbage treatment plant as well. The chief minister should convene a meeting of the high powered coordination committee at the earliest,” Sardesai had said.
