KOLHAPUR: Two unidentified persons broke into a bungalow in Ruikar Colony around 3am on Wednesday and made away with 230gm of gold, jewellery worth Rs 7.3 lakh and a bike worth Rs 70,000.
The duo had earlier tried to break into another house nearby but didn't find anything to steal.
CCTV footage gathered from the locality showed that the robbers stayed in the bungalow till 4.37am. The police have gathered the footage and are conducting an investigation.
The residents of the bungalow, a hotel owner and his family, were sleeping in another room that night. The room that the thieves broke into is reportedly used by the hotel owner's daughters, who were visiting relatives at that time.
A senior police officer, requesting anonymity, said: "We found that the duo first attempted robbery at a house located four to five houses away from the bungalow. They couldn't find anything in the first house so they targetted the bungalow. When they entered the bungalow, they covered their face with a handkerchief. They found the key of the bike on the dining table and took it away."
