The Supreme Court, on an appeal filed by the Muslim side, has deferred the order of the Allahabad High Court ordering a scientific survey including carbon dating of the ‘Shivling’ found inside the Gyanvapi mosque during an earlier survey. The SC bench led by CJI Chandrachud said that the implications of the HC order needed closer scrutiny and the said order stands deferred till the next date of hearing. The plea was filed by the Anjuman Islamia Masjid committee that manages the Gyanvapi mosque.
