Canadian airline WestJet calls off flights as pilot strike looms

Westjet cancels more than 100 – plus flights. The carrier stated on Thursday that they had cancelled flights because their situation with pilots is not progressive. Many of the passengers are disappointed with the news. It happened ahead of a holiday weekend in Canada.


Around 1,800 pilots at Westjet are to walk out of the job. It is said that Air Line Pilots Association issued a strike notice earlier this week.


Westjet CEO Alexis von Hoensbroech made a statement early this Thursday stating that they had tried to make negotiations. With a painful heart, they were left with no other choice but to prepare for a work stoppage.


The carrier of Westjet canceled 17% of flights on Thursday. Passengers were unable to make an online booking for flights. The company reported that the union wage expectation was very high. This could permanently damage the finance of the company.


Westjet Airline has advised its travelers to check their flight status before leaving for the airport.
