AIZAWL: Ten legislators and civil society organisations of Manipur's Chin-Kuki-Mizo-Zo-Hmar tribes have resolved not to hold any dialogue with the present Manipur government. They have also decided to form a united front to deal with the crisis gripping the state.
Besides the 10 MLAs, the meeting held in Aizawl on Wednesday night was attended by delegates of Indigenous Tribal Leaders' Forum (ITLF), Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), Zomi Council, Hmar Inpui (HI) and some other civil society bodies. It was also decided to hold consultations on a wider scale to arrive at a common political agenda with other groups.
ITLF leaders said a number of resolutions, including the demand for a separate administration for the 'Zo' community in Manipur's hill areas, have been adopted earlier by the civil societies in Churachandpur town. They stated that the demand should be Union Territory status for the people of Manipur hills or joining the state of Mizoram under the concept of 'Greater Mizoram' or a separate administration from the Manipur government.
At the meeting, it was decided that all the government employees belonging to 'Zo' tribe should leave Imphal within three days and enter Churachandpur district. The resolution further demanded expeditious identification of all those from the tribal community who died in the attacks by Meiteis so that mass funerals can be conducted soon. Also, a war cemetery would be erected in Churachandpur where all those "martyred" from the 'Zo' community would be buried, the resolution said.
