Missing Coimbatore girl reunited with parents: How six special teams traced her in a day
Girl called her mother from Pollachi on Thursday evening
COIMBATORE: Police reunited a 12-year-old girl, who went missing from her home at Ondipudur a day ago, with her parents on Thursday night.
The girl was playing with her younger brother at home before she went missing on Wednesday afternoon. Police checked CCTV footage from the locality and found the girl boarding a town bus from Ondipudur bus stop. Six special teams were formed to trace her whereabouts. Police also posted a message on social media handles, urging people with any information on the girl’s whereabouts to inform them.
Meanwhile, the girl called her mother from Pollachi on Thursday evening. “She had left her home following a spat with her parents. She took 500 from home and boarded a bus to Ukkadam bus stand, from where she left for Palani. After offering prayers at Palani temple, she got on a bus to Kozhinjampara in Palakkad with the intention of visiting a relative there. But after reaching Kozhinjampara, she had a change of mind and boarded a bus to Pollachi. It was raining when she reached Pollachi, and she felt lonely and homesick. She borrowed a commuter’s phone to call her mother,” a police officer told TOI.
“A police team was with the mother and the cops asked the commuter to buy her some food as she has diabetes. The city police alerted Pollachi police and a team met her around 8.30pm,” the officer said. “The girl was handed over to Singanallur police inspector Meenambigai and team, who brought her to Coimbatore and reunited with her parents.”
