Making difference: NCUI Field Projects train SHGs in remote areas

NCUI’s Cooperative Education field projects running in different parts of the country are doing wonders especially in taking the cooperative movement to the grassroot level, claimed a top official with facts and figures.

These projects are not only running in north Indian states but also in north-eastern states where the cooperative movement is perceived to be very weak. At present NCUI runs 34 field projects covering 18 states and a union territory, she added.

Talking in detail about these projects, NCUI’s top official Rajiv Sharma who is looking after these field projects said to the Indian Cooperative, “There are many field projects which are promoting the rural population into the cooperative movement. The projects running in Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh), Bilaspur (Himachal Pradesh), Hoshiarpur (Punjab), Surendranagar (Gujarat) are going well”.

“We are also going ahead with launching field projects in Maharashtra, Uttarakhand and other states which are lagging behind so far. The dream of opening PACCs in every ‘Panchayat’ of the country is not possible without the help of these field projects”, Sharma added.

Meanwhile, Monika Khanna, Deputy Director, Project said, ”we are providing a platform to the SHGs associated with field projects at the NCUI Haat for selling their products. We are also encouraging the employees associated with the field projects by giving special incentives to them. We distributed laptops, mobile phones and other gadgets to our field project officers”, she underlined.

“More than 200 events have been organized at district level for attracting youth to the cooperative movement. We are also in communication with several colleges for opening cooperative stores at their premises by engaging respective college students, which can help in building knowledge about the cooperative movement among youths”, Khanna asserted.

The NCUI is also actively posting details of its few field projects through social media. The Kohima (Nagaland) based NCUI’s Cooperative Education Field Project recently conducted a Social Media Awareness program at Jakhama village for students. IT expert Kehozhol Kulnu, educated the participants about social media platforms. The program was attended by college students and youths.

In another effort to coach women in dress designing in UP’s Fatehpur, NCUI’s field project conducted a Dress designing course (kurti, painted chicken-embroidery) for women of self-help groups, last week at Gazipur Panchayat Bhawan.

A special Cooperative awareness program was organized by the NCUI Cooperative Education Field Project Morigaon (Assam) recently at Jagi Bhakat gaon Samuhia Bhawan.
