KANPUR: The Collectorganj police arrested a man possessing huge quantity of banned drugs. Apart from drugs, the police seized the scooty that he used to smuggle drugs. The accused was sent to jail after being produced in the court on Thursday afternoon.
Collectorganj ACP TB Singh said that on Wednesday night, a person riding a black scooty was going from the medicine market towards Birhana Road Phoolbagh. When the police tried to stop him, he rushed the vehicle. This made cops suspicious. They besieged and caught the man.
During interrogation, the man identified himself as Mohit Kumar Savita, resident of Jagnikheda Shuklaganj police station, Gangaghat district, Unnao.
Upon searching the bag kept in scooty's trunk was searched, tablets and capsules of banned drugs like Alprazolam and Proxyvon Plus were found. Later, officers from the Drugs Department were informed and called for investigation on the spot.
Drug inspector Sandesh Maurya, along with the team reached the spot and examined the medicines. He told TOI that the drugs in Mohit's bag were psychotropic drugs, which are banned drugs under the Narcotic Drugs and Pyschotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
An FIR was then lodged against Mohit at the Collectorganj police station under the NDPS Act. After being produced in the court on Thursday afternoon, he was sent to jail.
On the basis of the information divulged by Mohit further investigation will be carried out to find the involvement of more people, said the ACP TB Singh. "This will reveal about his entire gang and such shopkeepers will be identified and their licences will be cancelled. We have booked him under 8/22 NDPS Act and sent him to jail," the dded.
