Gajapati orphan fights all odds to clear HSC exam
Like several others, Gajapati student Maheswari Raita also cleared the annual High School Certificate (HSC) exam on Thursday. But what sets her apart from the rest is the fact that she fought adversities like losing both her parents and despite that, she did well.
Raita, who had lost her father Markand Raita during the second wave of the pandemic in 2021, while her mother had passed away long back, lived in an orphanage at B.Sitapur and burned the midnight oil and scored 80%.
Like Maheswari, Rayagada resident Ganapati Sabar also lost his parents but despite that, he did well in the HSC exam and got a B1 grade. Ganapati had lost his mother years ago, while his father Sekhar Sabar died in a landslide caused by Cyclone Titli in October 2018. The district administration had rescued him and rehabilitated in a childcare institute, where he continued his studies. Last year his sister Mili had passed the HSC exam.
As many as 20 orphans, including four girls, raised in four childcare intuitions in the district appeared for the exam this time and all of them have cleared it.
