Truck driver dumps industrial waste, fined

Coimbatore: The city corporation has increased its vigil at the septage discharge point at Ukkadam after a truck driver was caught red-handed while dumping industrial waste there on Wednesday.
A corporation official said the truck driver was caught after health workers found that the liquid that he was letting out from his truck at the discharge point was different in colour with a stench. “When they questioned the driver, he initially said it was septage. Later, he admitted that it was industrial effluent.”
The official said they had imposed a fine of 50,000 on the driver. “We have lodged a police complaint, seeking criminal action against the truck driver. The health workers have increased vigil to prevent such incidents in future. Strict action will be taken in such violations.”TNN
