Rowdy-sheeter hacked to death in Karnataka's Vontikoppal
MYSURU: A rowdy-sheeter, who was acquitted in two sensational murder cases in Mysuru, was brutally hacked to death by a gang of bike-borne youths near his home at Vontikoppal on Kalidasa Road on Thursday evening.
The deceased is Chandrashekar aka “Kunda Chandru”, 42. He was declared dead at a private hospital, police commissioner Ramesh Banoth told reporters. A special team comprising sleuths of City Crime Branch has been formed to crack the case. Police have cordoned off the area and deployed a strong posse of personnel there.
Chandru was attacked with sharp and blunt objects by the gang at 4.45pm, after which he died due to severe head injury. Neighbours heard loud cheering by six-eight assailants — who are yet to be identified — while fleeing on their two-wheelers. Chandru was seated outside a tailor shop opposite his house when the gang attacked him. In no time, he was lying in a pool of blood with severe injuries on his head and stomach.
After inspecting the spot, the police commissioner told reporters that Chandru was attacked with blunt and sharp objects. “The identity of the assailants is not known. We have gathered clues and probing,” he added. Chandru’s wife Shilpa, who runs a food cart, was away from home at the time of incident. He was living with his mother and seven-year-old son Rajath.
Banoth said Chandru is a rowdy-sheeter and was earlier accused in Hunsur double-murder case in 2008, and Devu murder case in 2016. Devu was murdered near his house at Paduvarhalli, close to Vontikoppal. An advocate confirmed that Chandru was acquitted in both the sensational murder cases.
